A spare being achieved.

A spare is a term used in bowling when the player knocks down all ten pins in two throws. If all of the pins are knocked down in one shot, it is called a strike.

After a spare, the amount of pins toppled on the next roll is added to 10 to get the player's point total. For example, if a player gets a spare and then knocks down six pins at the first roll of the next frame, they get sixteen points for the frame in which they got a spare.
