Wii FE

A frontal view of the Wii Family Edition.

The Wii Family Edition variant is near identical to the original model, but is designed to sit horizontally. The vertical feet are still present; however, the front labels are rotated and a stand is no longer included.

The Family Edition is incompatible with Nintendo GameCube games and accessories. Some Wii games that used these ports are also incompatible. If you remove the left cover where the ports are on a regular Wii, the ports will still be there. However, this might do damage to the console. The Family Edition has the software required to play GameCube games from the disc drive. The only reason why it can't play GameCube discs is because its disc drive lacks the necessary hardware. If the disc drive is replaced with that of the original Wii, it can play GameCube discs.

In 2012, another remodel titled the Wii Mini was released, which was similar to the Family Edition.
